Competitive Pokemon Builds!!!

As promised, here are some competitive pokemon builds.
Note that some builds in this list will be similar to others or you have thought of this build already. Great minds think alike ;)

1. Ninetales
Nature : Timid
EVs : 252 SpA/252 Spe/6 Hp
Ability : Drought(Hidden)
Item : Air Balloon
Moveset :
-Nasty Plot
-Sunny Day
-Flamethrower/Fire Blast
-Solarbeam

I chose Sunny Day because ability weathers have a turn limit now in gen. 6. You'll never know if you can get another opportunity to get back the sun.
The tactic is simple, Set up a nasty plot at first turn, then pick an attacking move that deals massive damage on your opponent. I personally used flamethrower instead of Fire Blast because I don't want to take risks and besides that, a Nasty plot and Drought boosted flamethrower can OHKO almost anything that doesn't resist it. I play Ninetales as a Special Sweeper.

2. Heracross
Nature : Adamant
EVs : 252 Atk/252 Spe/6 Hp
Ability : Moxie(Hidden)
Item : Choice Scarf
Moveset :
-Close Combat
-Megahorn
-Stone Edge
-Earthquake

This is pretty easy to understand. Choice Scarf increases your speed by 50% so you are most likely to hit first than your opponent. Set Heracross to have a K.O. to get a moxie buff. If there's an opponent's pokemon in low health, make sure Heracross gets it. With a moxie buff you are almost unstoppable. This buff will continue to stack as you K.O. your opponents pokemon one-by-one. Choose the right move then Sweep!

3. Donphan
Nature : Impish
EVs : 252 Hp/88 Def/170 SpD
Ability : Sturdy
Item : Rocky Helmet
Moveset :
-Stealth Rock
-Rapid Spin
-Stone Edge
-Earthquake

Donphan is a bulky pokemon that can also set up Stealth Rocks. I chose the ability sturdy to secure setting up rocks even if a powerful super-effective move hits Donphan. Rapid spin is to counter other entry-hazard setters. Rocky Helmet is for powerful physical sweepers that needs to be shut-down especially that Red Bird Talonflame. Yes, Donphan is a hard counter for talonflame. Set up rocks in Talonflame's face while its setting a swords dance. Endure every hit talonflame gives with rocky helmet until talonflame becomes cornered upon switching out(death on switching in because of rocks) or try to trade damage with your stone edge and rocky helmet.

4. Cloyster
Nature : Adamant
EVs : 252 Atk/252 Spe/6 Hp
Ability : Skill Link
Item : White Herb
Moveset :
-Shell Smash
-Rock Blast
-Icicle Spear
-Razor Shell

This cute little Shellfish destroyed a lot of teams single-handedly... I MEAN IT!
Set up a Shell Smash and just make sure that Cloyster lives with what the opposing pokemon throws at it and you're done. Though there are some ways to counter Cloyster, it is still troublesome and most of the time it just destroys everything in his way. With the boosts that Shell Smash gives and the Ability Skill link, Rock Blast and Icicle spear can become so deadly.

5. Durant
Nature : Jolly
EVs : 252 Hp/252 Spe/6 SpD
Ability : Truant(Hidden)
Item : Focus Sash
Moveset :
-Entrainment
-Thunder Wave
-Swagger
-Iron Head(I don't know what to put anymore)

I play Durant as a support for the team. He just needs to use entrainment to apply Truant to an opposing pokemon and his job is done. Durant can combo-break sweepers that needs setting up like Blaziken or Talonflame. It can also help your sweeper in various ways like making the opponent switch out because of the annoying truant as you set you sweeper in.

6. Politoed
Nature : Bold
EVs : 252 Hp/252 Def/6 SpA
Ability : Drizzle(Hidden)
Item : Leftovers
Moveset :
-Scald
-Toxic
-Protect
-Encore

Politoed is best at stalling opponents. Politoed can encore sweepers that needs to set to make the opponent trainer have a forced switch out. It can toxic/protect stall walls. It can even burn physical threats with a rain boosted Scald. There are a lot of possibilities that can be done and by far, for me, Politoed is one of the walls that can stall out there.

7. Talonflame
Nature : Adamant
EVs : 252 Hp/252 Atk/6 Spe
Ability : Gale Wings(Hidden)
Item : Sitrus Berry
Moveset :
-Swords Dance
-Acrobatics/Brave Bird
-Flare Blitz
-Roost

Talonflame is pretty easy to understand. I chose sitrus berry to secure a set-up of swords dance as long as the opposing pokemon didn't OHKO talonflame. Once the sitrus berry is eaten, Talonflame will be dealing massive damage with Acrobatics. You can also use brave bird but I don't like recoils that much so its best to put it only as an option. Take note that Roost is a flying type move so take the ability gale wings to an advantage.

I will soon update more competitive Pokemon Builds! If you have questions, feel free to post a comment. If you have your own Pokemon builds that you want me to post with your name on it then e-mail me at fatgamer1208@gmail.com. Stay tune for more!

Pokemon X and Y Competitive Battling Guide!!!

So the majority of pokemon trainers(players of course) around the world devote themselves to competitive battling nowadays and I can't help but notice that some people still don't know how to have a perfect pokemon that is fit for battling. So here is a guide on creating that Perfect Pokemon!
                                                                                 (credits to Endless-Mittens DeviantArt)
1) Pokemon Stats!
Readers, please pay attention on this part because most people have no idea on how to manipulate their pokemon's stats. We will tackle this one-by-one so please stay with me.
Nature
Different pokemon, different natures. Have you ever wondered what a pokemon nature is all about? It doesn't change anything in the Poke Amie does it? Well to tell you the truth, nature plays a big part on the pokemon's base stats. Every nature changes the base stats of your pokemon increasing 10% of a stat and decreasing 10% at another. Different natures, different stat changes. There are also natures that doesn't change your pokemon's stats which will be seen the the chart below.

 (credits to bulbapedia.net)
To give you an example, Adamant nature increases your pokemon's attack by 10% but decreases your pokemon's sp. attack by also 10%. This nature is commonly used in physical sweepers like Scizor, Lucario, Darmanitan, and Conkeldurr.

IVs
It's not 4s, it's I Vs(Individual Values) of a pokemon. This stats are the first ones that contributes to a pokemon's base stats. The Individual Values. Have you ever been to Kiloude city? Inside the pokemon center there is a guy who calls himself a Pokemon Judge and he will Judge your pokemon. That is a way on how to know if you have perfect IVs(31 IVs) in each stat.
(credits to serebii.net)
This guy has different phrases for every stat but what you need to watch out for are the perfect(31) and 0 IVs. This guy will first tell your pokemon's average stat potential. If he says that your pokemon is decent, then you are far away from getting a lot of perfect stats. What you need to look out for is when he says that your pokemon is outstanding. Most likely, a pokemon with an outstanding potential has 4-5 perfect stats(but not all of them since this is just the average of every stat a pokemon has). To know what stats are perfect, the next thing that the judge will say are stats including hp, attack, defense, sp.atk, sp.def, and speed. After he says some of those stats, he will say how good they are. If he says that those are fantastic stats then not even 1 IV stat of your pokemon is perfect. You need to watch for the line "Stats like those... They simply can't beat!" because it means that the said IV stats are perfect or 31. Next is the 0 stat. After saying the first 2 lines, sometimes the judge will say another pokemon stat. If it says that a certain stat can't even land a scratch on an opponent or a stat is pretty dismal(defensive stats) it means that those stats are 0. Some people prefer some of their pokemon's stat to be 0 like the speed IV for Aegislash because of the way they manipulate the Shield and Sword Pokemon. Later, I will discuss on how to manipulate your pokemon's IVs.

EVs
Now we go to Effort Values. This is easy to understand because all trainers know about the Pokemon Super Training.

EVs are the stats that the yellow mark covers on the super training section on your down screen. These stats are also added to your base stats just like your IV stats. A stat can have a maximum of 252 EV points and a pokemon can have a total of 510 EV pts. Beginners usually go for 252/252/6 on their stat distribution like getting 252 sp.atk/252 speed/6 hp on Greninja. Later, I will also discuss an easier way to get EVs rather than trying to pop a big poke balloon.

STAB MOVES
Stab moves are boosted moves if the move has the same type as the user's. For example, Electivire's Wild Charge has a 90 base power. Wild Charge is an electric type move and Electivire is an electric type pokemon. Wild Charge will deal 50% more damage because of Stab. A whooping 135 attack. So take note of Stab moves also, not just the super effective ones.

2) Egg Moves!
Pokemons have Egg moves that they can inherit from their parents.

Now, in generation 6, even the mother can give an egg move to it's offspring. It's pretty much easy to understand and I myself don't remember all the possible egg moves of each pokemon out there so you better search that on your own. Here's an example. A Charmander can learn Outrage and Dragon Dance by Breeding a Male Dragonite with a Female Charizard(charmeleon or charmander). The offspring will always be like the mother(female) pokemon so in this case it will be a Charmander. The egg moves is provided by the father(male) which is Outrage and Dragon Dance. Just make sure that these moves are on the moveset of the father pokemon.

3) Ability
Different Pokemon, Different abilities.Every Pokemon has an ability and a majority of pokemon has hidden abilities. So how do abilities affect the competitive side of Pokemon?

Pokemon have certain abilities that contributes to their play style. Choosing the right ability is a wise decision. Take note also that not because an ability is hidden, it's far more greater than a normal ability. It's still up to you on how you want to build your competitive pokemon.
So what are Hidden abilities?
Hidden abilities are abilities of pokemon that is not normally present in the wild. Most Pokemon in the wild has normal abilities.
So how can one have a Pokemon with a Hidden ability?
There are different ways to catch a pokemon with a hidden ability and I will enumerate them all.
1) Horde Battles
In Horde Battles, there is a chance that a pokemon in a horde possesses a hidden ability. An easy catch is murkrow with the Hidden ability Prankster. The ability Prankster is an ability that makes non-damaging/status moves have a priority +1. It means that most likely, any non-damaging/status moves will move first unless the opponent has a priority move too.

For Example, we got 5 murkrows and you have a garchomp on your team. All you need to do is make a swords dance and if 1 Murkrow does a non damaging move and it moves first than garchomp's swords dance then most likely, that murkrow, possesses a hidden ability. Catch it!
2) Friend Safari
Some of the pokemons on Friend Safari possesses a Hidden ability. You just need patience until you catch one. It's better if you have a pokemon with the Trace Ability like Gardevoir so you can trace a pokemon's ability. This way , you don't need to catch multiple pokemons and hope for a hidden ability while viewing their summary.

3) Events
In some events, they give away pokemons that possesses Hidden ability. I got my Unnerve Mewtwo on a Toy Shop in our Country.
4) Items
Just a simple explanation, Items have description and it's up to you on how you are going to use them.
For Example, a life orb on greninja. Life orb boosts the damage of a move by 30% but the user loses 10% of its health every time it does an attack. Greninja is one of the fastest pokemon out there so it won't matter if its hp is going down bit by bit because it can sweep an entire team untouched.
5) Manipulate Those Stats!
Now that the boring introduction of stats is done, let's get going on how on earth are you gonna create your perfect pokemon with perfect stats.

Nature and Everstone
How to manipulate the nature? We catch pokemon and sometimes it's nature sucks. For example, a Modest Drapion and/or a Modest Gyarados. Being Modest doesn't fit them because they have low sp.atk already so why bother to boost it up?  How are we gonna fix it?
Nature is fixed by breeding(Breeding fixes everything) and here are the steps that you need to follow.

Step 1 : Catch the Pokemon that you want for competitive Battling.
Step 2 : If the pokemon is male, breed it with a ditto(this also works on female pokemon). Otherwise, If the pokemon is female, breed it with a male pokemon with the same egg group.
Step 3 : Now comes the everstone. Everstone possesses another use besides preventing the evolution of a pokemon. A pokemon holding an Everstone when breeding gives the offspring the same nature it has. For example I have a Blastoise(male) that is modest and a Clauncher(female) that is sassy natured. If Blastoise is holding an Everstone while they breed, a clawitzer coming from their egg will have a modest nature just like Blastoise. So if your pokemon is male, all you gotta do is find a ditto with the right nature and let it hold the everstone while breeding. Their offspring will have the same nature with Ditto.
Advance Tips
Catch Dittos on the Pokemon Village in the city where you get the 8th Badge or locate someone that has a normal type Friend Safari with Ditto. Try to collect different dittos with different natures because it will be useful in building your own competitive team.

Perfect IVs
Now that our nature is done, it's time to have serious conversations with the Pokemon Judge in Kiloude City. You will be talking to him a lot and I mean a LOT. Here are the steps on getting a perfect/competitive IV pokemon.
Step 1 : Ready the pokemon with the right nature and egg moves. We will call this the base pokemon.
Step 2 : Get a breeding partner with perfect ivs on some stats. Dittos are most likely to have perfect IV stats. Talk to the judge to know what perfect IV stats your pokemon has.
tip
Pokemons from Friend Safaris have a minimum of 2 perfect stats. So getting a Ditto safari is a must!
Step 3 : Make the base pokemon hold the everstone to copy its nature. Let the breeding partner hold a destiny knot. A destiny knot makes sure that 5 stats(randomly) from both parents are passed down to the offspring. So there is a chance that the offspring doesn't possess a perfect IV. However, if the breeding partner only has 1 perfect IV stat, I would suggest using the power items that can be bought by BP in the Battle Maison located at Kiloude City. For example, Ditto possesses a Perfect IV stat on his attack. I will let ditto hold a Power Bracer so that there is a 100% chance that the attack IV stat of Ditto will be passed down to the offspring.
Step 4 : Ask the Judge in Kiloude City to know if your pokemon possesses the Perfect IV stats it should have with the breeding process. Repeat Step 3 until all the required IV stats have been passed down unto the offspring.
Step 5 : Get ready to enjoy your pokemon with perfect IVs.
note : Destiny Bond only passes down 5 IV stats from the parents so it's less likely to have a pokemon with 6 perfect IVs. 5 is fine in competitive Battling.

Here's an Example
I have a male adamant(+atk,-sp.atk) charmander without perfect IV stats and I paired it with a Ditto with perfect Stats on both Speed and Attack. I gave charmander the Everstone for the nature and I gave Ditto a Destiny Knot to make the offspring inherit it's attack and speed stats.
After 7 eggs I finally have my Adamant Charmander with perfect IVs on Attack and Speed.

Now I have another Ditto with perfect IVs on HP and Defense.
Same step, I let my new Charmander hold the everstone to keep its nature and Ditto with a Destiny knot.
After 45 eggs I Finally got an Adamant Charmander with perfect stats on Atk, Hp, Def, and Speed. But I'm not done yet. My charmander still needs Sp. Def.

Luckily I have a female Charmander(which can be bred with a male charmander) that has Perfect IV stats on both Sp. Def and Def. It also possesses the egg moves Outrage and Dragon Dance. Since female pokemon nowadays can pass egg moves by a chance, I'm most certain that the offspring will also have the moves outrage and dragon dance. Same scenario, I let my new male adamant charmander with perfect IV stats on atk, def, hp and speed hold an everstone. The female charmander with egg moves and perfect IV stats on both Sp. Def and Def is holding the destiny knot. After 88 eggs I finally got my pokemon with 5 perfect IV stats and egg moves.

note : Abilities are passed down by the female pokemon with a high chance. So hidden abilities are most likely passed down by female pokemons. Male pokemons can also pass down a hidden ability if it is paired by a ditto but the chance is very low so be patient.

Right amount of EVs
We're almost done in creating our competitive pokemon! So at this point we have the right ability, the correct nature and perfect IV stats on our pokemon. It's time for Effort Values. Most players know(even casual ones) about effort values because of the Super Training provided in the lower screen of our 3ds. But if you pay close attention, pokemon also gains effort values when defeating a pokemon. It's not all about how your pokemon kicks soccer balls to balloons. Different Pokemon provide different effort values when defeated. For example, Axew gives +1 EV to atk while Nosepass provides +1 EV to Defense when defeated. Here is a tip on how to gain EVs faster than kicking balls.

What you'll need :
-Pokerus
-Power Items
-Exp. Share (on)
-Pokemon with sweet scent(Combee, Spritzee, etc)
-Strong Pokemon with Area Attacks(Earthquake, Surf, Rock Slide etc.)

Pokerus
Pokerus doubles the EV gained when defeating a pokemon. This really makes EV training easier. You can have this on wonder trade if your lucky. Pokerus can infect every pokemon in your party and you can preserve it on your PC in the pokemon center. Make sure you always infect a pokemon so you will never run out of infected pokemon. Pokerus doesn't have any side effects so don't worry.

Power Items
As shown in the picture above, power items give an additional 4 EV points on each stat they possess so you better buy every one of them.

Because of the changes in the Exp. Share, EV training is a lot easier today compared to the previous generations. Turn the Exp. Share ON and all the pokemon in the party will gain exp. Exp. Share doesn't just share Experience, it also shares EVs. So all you need is 3 pokemons. One with sweet scent to call a horde, the strong pokemon with area attacks that can wipe a horde, and the competitive pokemon we are building.

Just let your competitive pokemon hold the right Power Item then Fight the right horde with your strong pokemon. With pokerus and a power item, a pokemon will have 50 EV pts. per horde. 10 EV pts. per single pokemon defeated.

Here's a list of helpful Pokemon Hordes and their locations :

Weepinbell
(credits to winter freak)
Location : Road on the Right of Snowbelle City. Upper bush.
EV : +1 Attack
Vanillite
(credits to chibitigre deviantart)
Location : Inside Frost Cavern
EV : +1 Sp. Attack

Whismur

Location : Connecting Cave. Cave on top of the ramp in Cyllage City.
EV : +1 Hp

Zubat
Location : Connecting Cave. Cave on top of the ramp in Cyllage City.
EV : +1 Speed

Hoppip
Location : Route 7, in front of the pokemon breeders house.
EV: +1 Sp. Defense

Nosepass

Location : Route 10, Bottom of Geosenge Town
EV : +1 Defense

Here's an example:

Now I will train my Charmander to have 252 atk/252/speed/6hp. I have my garchomp with Earthquake and Surf. I also have my spritzee with sweet scent. Exp. Share is turned on and my Charmander is holding a Power Bracer(+4 Atk). Take note that my pokemons have pokerus so EV is doubled. If a pokemon gives +1 atk and the bracer gives +4 atk. Pokerus doubles both of it at a total of 10 EV pts per pokemon defeated.

Weepinbell gives +1 atk and its horde is located at the right side of snowbelle city(8th gym) on the grassy area. I used my spritzee's sweet scent to attract a horde and wiped out the horde with a single earthquake of a strong garchomp. My Charmander gains 50 EVs on atk in an instant. I repeated the process 6 times so that the atk is already maxed(252 pts). Now for speed, I went to Cyllage city and entered the cave located at the top of the ramp. I switched Power Bracer to Power Anklet to have additional +4 speed. There I used sweet scent again and attracted a horde of Zubats which maxed out my Charmander's speed. Whismur is also located there and it gives hp. Defeated a couple of whismurs to get that 6 hp EV pts. Now I really have a perfect Charmander!

                            (credits to xtamamachanx deviantart)

The only thing I need to do is level him up to be a strong Charizard with the perfect moveset and he's ready for competitive battling!
as a gift for reading until the very end, here's a moveset for charizard.
IVs : 31 on Hp,Atk,Def,SpDef,Speed
EVs : 252 Atk/252 Speed/6 Hp
Nature : Adamant
Item : Charizardite X
                                                                  Moveset : Flare Blitz
                                                                  Outrage/Dragon Claw
                                                                  Dragon Dance
                                                                  Earthquake
Tactics : Mega-Evolve, Set up a Dragon Dance and Dominate!!!

Please tune in for more guides! I'll be posting competitive pokemon builds next time. See you soon!
